Client Overview

A mid-sized product liability litigation firm based in Encino handled multi-defendant claims, including medical device and equipment failure cases. The firm relied on one vendor for its deposition summary work. However, the vendor's summaries were not meeting the firm's expectations, particularly when it came to customization.

The firm approached LezDo TechMed to evaluate whether it could better meet its deposition summary requirements. Before making a long-term decision, the firm requested a free trial by assigning a small deposition summary project with specific customization requirements.

Challenges

  • Generic, One-Size-Fits-All Deposition Summaries

The firm's existing vendor delivered standard chronological format summaries. These did not match how the attorneys actually organized product liability testimony. Attorneys had to rework the summaries before they could use them in deposition prep.

  • Extra Time Needed to Rework Summaries

Standard summaries took extra time to rework. Attorneys had to reorganize testimony around liability, causation, and product-defect themes. As a result, they had less time to focus on case preparation and strategy.

  • Existing Vendor Couldn't Provide the Required Format

The firm needed summaries organized around liability, causation, and product-defect issues. Their existing vendor only provided standard page-by-page summaries. Attorneys had to reorganize the summaries before they could use them.

  • Hesitant to Switch Vendors

The firm had relied on one vendor for a long time. Switching to a new vendor felt risky, especially for casework tied to active litigation. They needed proof that LezDo TechMed could deliver reliably before sending more work.

  • Lack of Consistency Across Deposition Summaries

The firm handled a high volume of cases. The summaries did not follow a uniform format. Quality from their existing vendor did not meet expectations. Some summaries had errors or missing details. This made it harder to review and use them consistently across the caseload.

Solutions

LezDo TechMed gave the free trial with the same level of attention as a full-scale engagement. Our expert team adjusted the deposition summaries to match the firm's workflow instead of using a standard format.

  • Custom Deposition Summary Format

The summary was reorganized around the themes the firm wanted. Testimony was organized by liability, causation, and defect-related issues. This replaced the flat chronological layout the firm had been getting before.

  • Attorney-Usability Focus

Page and line references, exhibit tie-ins, and contradiction flags were built directly into the custom format. They could use the summary immediately in deposition prep. No further reformatting was needed.

  • Consistent Quality on a Small Sample

Although the project was part of a free trial, LezDo TechMed maintained its standard quality review process. The deliverables reflected the same level of accuracy and attention to detail provided across larger engagements.

Execution

We first reviewed the firm's customization requirements to understand how the attorneys wanted the deposition summaries structured. We then prepared the summaries in the requested format, ensuring every section aligned with the firm's workflow and litigation needs.

Before delivery, each deposition summary underwent our standard quality review process to verify accuracy, completeness, and consistency. We completed the trial project within the agreed turnaround time and delivered it in the exact format requested by the firm.

Results

  • Proven Through a Free Trial

What began as a low-commitment free trial led to additional deposition assignments. LezDo TechMed moved from a trial provider to a preferred vendor for the firm's product liability caseload. The customized format meant less time spent reworking summaries before they could be used.

  • Expanded Vendor Engagement

The successful trial gave the firm confidence to shift more product liability deposition summary work to LezDo TechMed, reducing its reliance on its existing vendor.

  • Improved Attorney Productivity

The custom format was usable straight out of delivery. Attorneys spent far less time reworking summaries before deposition prep. That freed up time for case strategy instead.

  • Standardized Deposition Summary Workflow

The firm now receives deposition summaries in a consistent format, making it easier for attorneys to review, compare, and prepare their cases.

  • Reduced In-House Dependency

The firm's in-house team of 30 staff previously handled deposition summary work internally. With LezDo TechMed now supporting the workload, only 5 in-house staff were needed for the function. The rest were freed up for higher-value case work.
