Viagra

Is viagra a drug? Yes. Viagra relaxes artery wall muscles and improves blood circulation to specific organs in the body. What are Viagra tablet uses? It is a pill that is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence).  With erectile dysfunction, you’re unable to have or maintain an erection.

Viagra is only prescribed for men over 18. It aids you in achieving and maintaining an erection. It usually begins to work between 30 and 60 minutes after you take it. However, Viagra does not produce an erection. Instead, the drug will only work if you are sexually aroused.

Who found Viagra?

Viagra was developed by Pfizer in 1989, but it was not approved as an erectile dysfunction pill by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) until 1998.

On March 27, 1998, the FDA approved it for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It was the very first oral treatment approved to treat erectile dysfunction in the United States, and it became available for sale later that year.

It rapidly became such a massive success: annual Viagra sales peaked at US$1.934 billion in 2008; later, because of numerous Viagra lawsuits, Pfizer’s Viagra production stopped in 2017, and the drug became available in generic form.

Generic Viagra Truth

Sildenafil citrate (Sildenafil) is the generic Viagra name. It also contains the same active ingredients as Viagra, which give the pill its shape and make it easier for your body to absorb.

Dosage for Viagra

The following information defines usually suggested erectile dysfunction dosages of Viagra.

You would most probably begin with a Viagra dose of 50 mg. Ideally; you should take Viagra about an hour before having sex. You can take the pill 30 minutes to 4 hours before you intend to perform sexual acts.

Your doctor may increase your dose to a maximum of 100 mg or decrease your dose to 25 mg, depending on how well you respond to this dosage and any ruling out complications.

Viagra should be consumed only once per day and should use only when absolutely essential.

Can Viagra cause damage?

Suppose you have specific male genital issues, such as scarring or bending. In that case, Viagra may not be safe for you because a prolonged erection is a rare complication of Viagra.

If you already have a physical problem with your penis, this side effect may worsen it.

What are side effects of Viagra?

Viagra has been associated with a variety of adverse side effects. The following are some of the most common Viagra side effects:

  • Headaches
  • Light sensitivity
  • Nose congestion
  • Irritability and muscle pain

In addition to these minor side effects, there are several severe Viagra long term side effects:

  • Hearing Loss – The FDA received several complaints from men who experienced sudden hearing loss. Following an inquiry into these complaints, the FDA suggested that a warning about this side effect should be included on Viagra’s label.
  • Vision Loss – The FDA also investigated sudden vision impairment and blindness reports. The Administration found several men suffered sensitivity to light, blurred vision, or “bluish” vision after taking Viagra.
  • Blindness – Men who took Viagra reported sudden vision problems or blindness in one or both eyes in some cases.
  • Low Blood Pressure & Heart Issues – Due to a sudden drop in blood pressure, cardiac arrest, and other heart-related problems, some lawsuits have been filed against Viagra.

Some of these severe side effects are mentioned on the warning label of Viagra, allowing doctors and patients to make an informed decision about whether to use the drug. Even so, there is an increased risk of developing melanoma.

Melanoma

Melanoma is a rare form of skin cancer known as the deadliest due to its ability to metastasize and spread to other body parts.

When detected early, melanoma patients typically have a 99 percent survival rate. The mortality rate drops to 15% if the condition is not seen in its early stages.

Viagra and Melanoma

The connectivity between Viagra and melanoma has been known since 2014, when a report revealed that men who took the pill were 84% more likely to suffer from skin cancer compared to those who did not.

Even though the risks of developing melanoma nearly doubled, they were not included in the Viagra warning label.

Because of the severe risks of melanoma, in 2016, the FDA announced that it was analyzing the need for regulatory action against Viagra.

Claims against Viagra

Pfizer is accused of the following:

  • The company did not provide sufficient melanoma risk warnings.
  • The medication “Viagra” was misrepresented as safe.
  • The drug was not thoroughly tested.

The legal history of Viagra

The initial Viagra lawsuits against Pfizer involved patients who had suffered heart attacks or strokes due to the pill’s sudden drops in blood pressure.

The Viagra lawsuits that followed those certain initial statements involved patients who had experienced vision or hearing loss due to taking the drug.

Pfizer faced Viagra lawsuits in 2005 because of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s action against Pfizer’s Viagra warning label regarding reports of vision loss.

Patients who developed melanoma after taking Viagra are now pursuing legal Viagra lawsuits against the manufacturer.

Viagra lawsuits

Since the drug’s first use just after FDA approval in 1998, doctors have prescribed it to nearly 70 million men worldwide, generating more than $1.7 billion in annual profits for Pfizer, Inc., the world’s largest pharmaceutical company.

Many plaintiffs who have filed Viagra lawsuits against Pfizer claim that the pharmaceutical company was aware, or should have been aware, of the potential side effects but decided to hide the information from patients, doctors, and the medical community.

The following are some of the Viagra lawsuits filed against Pfizer in different years.

August 2014– A Viagra lawsuit was filed by Edward Corboy Jr. against Pfizer in 2014, asserting the company “failed to adequately warn that the use of Viagra significantly increases a person’s risk of developing skin cancer.”

In 2008, Corboy took Viagra to treat erectile dysfunction. Corboy stated in his complaint that he had a tissue sample taken from a mole on his neck in December 2012, and the findings confirmed melanoma. Corboy later required surgery to get his cancer cleared.

Corboy’s complaint also claimed that his long-term use of the drug put him at a higher risk of developing melanoma and that it became severe.

Finally, the plaintiff stated that he would not have taken the risk if he had been appropriately warned about the dangers.

December 2014 – An Illinois man filed a Viagra lawsuit against Pfizer Inc., claiming that the erectile dysfunction medication caused his melanoma skin cancer.

The plaintiff claimed that the most active ingredient in the blue pill (Sildenafil citrate) is a side effect of taking Viagra.

According to this Viagra law cases, the plaintiff claimed that Pfizer was aware, or should have been aware, of the connection between the medication and skin cancer. The plaintiff also claimed that Pfizer failed to warn about the risk of Viagra, which led to the development of life-threatening cancer.

January 2015 – A Viagra skin cancer lawsuit was filed against Pfizer by an Illinois resident. The plaintiff claimed that taking the famous “blue pill” for erectile dysfunction caused him to develop melanoma skin cancer.

The plaintiff claimed that in 2008, he was prescribed Viagra as a supposedly effective treatment for erectile dysfunction. The man took the medication until the end of 2012, when he was diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer following a biopsy of a neck mole.

The plaintiff claimed that if he knew that taking Viagra could increase his risk of developing melanoma, he would have considered many other options or never taken the prescription medication.

April 2015 – One further Viagra melanoma lawsuit has been filed against Pfizer Inc., this time by a Kentucky plaintiff who claims that Pfizer’s erectile dysfunction pills caused the development of his deadly melanoma skin cancer.

The plaintiff received his first Viagra prescription shortly after the erectile dysfunction medication was launched onto the medical market and used until the end of 2012.

The plaintiff claimed that Pfizer Inc. failed to inform him of the risks associated with the medication that caused his melanoma skin cancer. Although the growths were successfully removed through surgery, the plaintiff is at a high risk of developing the deadliest form of skin cancer.

May 2015 – Another Viagra wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against Pfizer, this time by a Minnesota woman whose husband died of deadly melanoma skin cancer. The plaintiff claimed that the drug manufacturer Pfizer Inc. failed to warn her husband about the potentially fatal side effects of taking the erectile dysfunction medication.

According to this Viagra law cases, the plaintiff stated that if her husband had been aware of the risks associated with taking Viagra, “he would have chosen not to take Viagra and, as a result, would not have experienced its serious side effects that claimed his life.”

June 2015- In 2000, Robert Eubanks began using Viagra to treat erectile dysfunction. Eubanks continued to use the drug regularly until 2013 when he changed to Cialis (an E.D. medicine manufactured by Eli Lilly).

Eubanks was detected with melanoma on his back on November 12, 2012. Later, cancer spread to his thyroid and a lymph vessel below his left arm. Eubanks had surgery to remove cancerous cells.

Therefore, in June 2015, Eubanks and his wife, Teresa, filed a lawsuit against Pfizer. According to their complaint, “If the manufacturer had mentioned the risk of the medication, Robert Eubanks would have avoided the risk of developing melanoma by not using Viagra at all.”

There are also Viagra hearing loss lawsuits, Viagra blindness lawsuits, and Cialis hearing loss lawsuits in function, which are as not in detail.

Viagra blindness lawsuit and Viagra hearing loss lawsuit

Many men, who used viagra, filed a lawsuit against Pfizer for sudden blindness and hearing loss. Cases related to blindness and hearing loss are filed in large numbers for the past few years.

Cialis in Lawsuits

On February 12th, an Arkansas man filed a lawsuit against Eli Lily and Co., the manufacturers and distributors of the drug Cialis, alleging that the drug was the cause of his melanoma, and he also stated that if the drug had proper warnings about the risk of skin cancer, he could have avoided it.

Multidistrict Litigation

Although Viagra and Cialis are the only two drugs named in the MDL, the inclusion of other drugs like Revatio and Adcirca into the MDL may be possible in the future as they use the same biological mechanisms as Viagra and Cialis.

As of July 2019, there are 955 individual lawsuits pending in the Viagra and Cialis MDL. A few cases in the MDL were previously dismissed due to the plaintiff’s inability to adhere to certain time constraints.

Viagra death claims

More than 500 deaths have been reported in association with Viagra, equivalent to a rate of approximately 50 deaths per million prescriptions. Most deaths are caused by other underlying conditions, such as cardiovascular disease and drug-drug interactions.

To protect the victim’s rights, the family members of the men who died from melanoma after taking Viagra can file a wrongful death claim.

Viagra Settlements

Men who have taken Viagra and then developed melanoma may very well be able to claim compensatory damages in a successful lawsuit. This compensation is aimed to compensate the victim for the following losses:

  • Medical expenses incurred as a result of melanoma detection and treatment
  • Estimated costs for future medical care related to melanoma
  • Lost wages
  • Any loss of earning capacity as a result of the medical condition
  • Compensation for physical and mental anguish.
  • A victim’s family’s loss of companionship or consortium.
  • Wrongful death

Punitive damages are intended to punish, specifically wrongful acts by the pharmaceutical company, by compensating victims for more than their damages. They are common when drug manufacturers actively conceal evidence that their products seriously harm consumers.
